> curious builder

A curious, hands-on CS student who's happiest building things — teaching, researching, and figuring out how to make tech that's both secure and actually nice to use. Always learning, always tinkering.

// about

A little about me

A quick snapshot of who I am and what I'm into.

I'm Valeria, a Computer Science student at Virginia Tech (B.S. expected December 2028, GPA 3.74). I'm an undergraduate teaching assistant for CS 2114 (Software Design & Data Structures) and a researcher in the ASCEND Lab, where I'm helping build a visual debugger that makes unfamiliar code easier to reason about.

I'm curious and hands-on — happiest when I'm learning something new or building it from scratch. Lately that's meant Python and FastAPI on the backend, plus digging into security and AI, trying to make tech that's secure and genuinely nice to use. Outside of CS you'll find me dancing or walking Gracie.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

2026 – Present

Virginia Tech · Department of Computer Science

UTA for CS 2114 (Software Design & Data Structures). I run weekly lab sections and office hours for 30+ students in a 200+ person course, debug Java implementations of linked lists, trees, and hash tables, and grade projects with feedback on design, edge cases, and runtime complexity.

Undergraduate Researcher

2026 – Present

ASCEND Lab · Virginia Tech

Building a visual debugger for code comprehension with Dr. David Smith — it renders program execution state to help students reason about unfamiliar code. I work on the Python and JavaScript prototype and help design the observational studies we use to test it with students.

Software & AI Development Intern

2025 – 2026

Clark Mountain Holdings · Virginia Beach, VA

Built an AI legal-intake chatbot with the Claude API to streamline client data collection, and automated a newsletter pipeline that curates and distributes AI industry updates to leadership. Also shipped 3+ responsive client websites, from visual refreshes to full rebuilds.

Backend Portfolio Automation

A FastAPI service on Render that syncs my GitHub repos into Postgres, drafts project descriptions from READMEs with the Claude API, and serves them over 7 authenticated REST endpoints. README hashing skips unchanged repos; an override flag keeps my manual edits safe — it powers the projects on this page.

Game rental desktop app interface

Game Rental Design Project

Co-developed a C# desktop app in Visual Studio (~3,000 lines) with a SQL database and OOP models to track 20+ rentals in a web-style GUI.

// leadership & awards

Outside the code editor

Running events, raising sponsorship, and the recognition that's come along the way.

E-Ball Chair

2026 – Present

Student Engineers' Council · Virginia Tech

I direct planning and execution of the Engineers' Ball — a formal event with ~900 attendees and a $51,000 budget — managing a committee, vendor relationships, and logistics. I'm also on the SEC executive board helping run the VT Engineering Expo, the second-largest student-run career fair in the country.

Company Relations Chair

2026 – Present

HackViolet · Virginia Tech

I lead corporate sponsorship for Virginia Tech's largest women-in-tech hackathon — building a tiered prospect pipeline across regional and national tech companies, owning cold outreach and sponsor relationships, and securing $10,000+ in funding through direct pitches to engineering and recruiting teams.
